To celebrate what would have been Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday, the Insurance Section Education and Training Authority (INSETA) launched the INSETA Rural Learnership Programme at an event held near Madiba’s house in his Eastern Cape home village of Qunu, Mthatha.
The programme offers learnerships for 66 young people from the Qunu region. After three months the students will be placed in the corporate world to gain work-based experience for the rest of the year.
‘As part of our focus to support skills development in rural areas, Sanlam will accommodate 11 of the 66 learners at Sanlam offices in the Eastern Cape,’ Frederick Stroebel, Head: SPF HR Learning & Development, told the audience at the event. ‘It’s all part of Sanlam giving back in our centenary year.’
Odwa Gonya, who completed a learnership in the Sanlam Group and is now the Head: Learning and Development at Sanlam Sky Solutions, also spoke at the launch.
