We are pleased to inform you that the Income Disability benefit has been enhanced to include a rehabilitation programme for disabled members.This was done to extend a comprehensive early intervention and disability claims management service to employers. How it works? Where the insurer identifies cases where rehabilitation or re-skilling of the disabled member is likely to be successful in enabling the member to return to work, the insurer will provide the necessary support to the member and the employer. A rehabilitation programme will be drawn up by an occupational therapist. It is important that the member cooperates fully with the programme. The Income Disability benefit being paid to the member may be suspended should they breach any condition imposed upon them in terms of the rehabilitation programme. What are the costs? The costs for the rehabilitation programme will be paid by the insurer, and will exclude the costs that are covered by:
- The registered medical aid fund(s) of which the disabled member is a member or dependant.
- The payment of any other costs will be at the insurer’s sole discretion.
