The Sanlam Umbrella Fund is committed to helping members improve their retirement outcomes. This is a mission we share with our intermediaries and employers.

A key strategy to improving outcomes is through education and empowering our members to use the tools available to them. Therefore, the Sanlam Umbrella Fund is launching online Member Education Sessions called “Imali Zam” or “My Money” sessions, which will focus on equipping members to better understand their savings and benefits. The sessions will be informative, covering topics such as:

  • How to read my benefit statement
  • How to update my nomination of beneficiary form
  • How to access and use the Retirement Savings Calculator, and more…

Members can decide whether the topic is of interest to them and which sessions they plan to attend. We encourage our intermediaries and employers to support this education initiative and promote any session that they feel will be of particular interest to their members.

The first Imali Zam session is scheduled for 9 June 2021 and will focus on the Sanlam Member Portal. This is a powerful financial planning tool that helps members take charge of their retirement journey and build financial confidence. Technology offers us the convenience of accessing information at our fingertips using our devices. However, many members are not registered for the portal, or do not know where to access the information that they are looking for.

With the Sanlam Member Portal, fund members can:

  1. Access information on their retirement funds and group risk benefits
  2. Explore options to boost their retirement outcomes
  3. Use the Retirement Savings Calculator to work out how much they need to save
  4. View their current investments and make investment decisions, if applicable
  5. Update their beneficiary information

The invitation can be distributed to members to support this education initiative. On 4 June 2021, the Sanlam Umbrella Fund will also invite members directly, where we have contact details. Members will need to register for the event, and a reminder email will be sent before the session.
